Executive Summary:
In July, 2020, the Geyserville Alexander Valley Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) approved a recommendation to support the Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection District (NSCFPD) in obtaining $100,000 to fund the first year of a two-year program needed to complete priority fuel reduction along County roads conducted in cooperation with the Department of Transportation and Public Works and CAL FIRE.
With the adoption of the FY 2016-2017 budget, the Board approved a set-aside of $1,086,743 to fund outreach efforts, planning, and infrastructure projects in the Geyserville Area to mitigate the impacts of the casino and general associated changes in the area. On February 27, 2018, the Board approved the use of $60,000 for the Geyserville Fire Protection District to develop and implement a community preparedness plan leaving a balance of $1,026,743.
This item requests Board authorization for the County Administrator to execute an agreement in the amount of $100,000 with the Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection District to complete priority vegetation management and fuel reduction and authorization for the use of $5,577 of Tribal Development Impact Mitigation Fund set aside for Geyserville Alexander Valley Municipal Advisory Council administrative costs. Discussion:
The MAC was established in late 2018 and initially charged with the task of recommending how the mitigation funds should be expended by the County for the benefit of the residents of Alexander Valley. In early 2020 the GAV MAC adopted a formal program to identify and further develop proposals for community improvement projects. The proposed Vegetation Management and Fuel Reduction project would focus on vegetation management and fuel reduction along the County roads in high fire-risk areas in the Alexander Valley, with increased focus on transecting “wildland urban interface” areas. The Vegetation Management Program is staffed largely by a group of volunteer fire fighters who are paid hourly rates. The group had recently completed fuel reduction along Coyote Ridge prior to the 2019 Kincade Fire, contributing to the preservation of the Vineyard Valley View community.
In July, 2020, the MAC approved a recommendation to support the NSCFPD in obtaining $100,000 to fund the first year of a two-year program needed to complete priority fuel reduction along County roads conducted in cooperation with the Department of Transportation and Public Works and CAL FIRE. The MAC is also requesting $5,577 to support administrative costs to support public outreach and engagement.
