The Board of Supervisors are responsible for appointments to over 75 boards, commissions, committees, and task forces. Rule 50 of the Board Rules of Procedures states that the Clerk of the Board shall convene staff to review prospective countywide appointments and make appointment recommendations to the Board. The current item recommends the appointment of Oscar Chavez to the First 5 Sonoma County Commission in an At Large position representing the community-based organizations that are focused on family resiliency and nurturing parenting.
Discussion:
Oscar Chavez will represent the community-based organizations that are focused on family resiliency and nurturing parenting. Oscar has previously served on the First 5 Sonoma County Commission as an Ex Officio member March 25, 2019, to March 14, 2023.
Oscar Chavez is currently the President and CEO of Community Foundation Sonoma County, a nonprofit community funder that has a long history of partnership with First 5 Sonoma County. Informed by his own lived experience, Oscar has been a community leader for more than 25 years and has a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of Sonoma County's most vulnerable families and children.
First 5 Sonoma County Commission discussed the nomination of Oscar Chavez for a two-year term and voted on March 25, 2024, with no refusals.
