Executive Summary:
Northern Sonoma County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT will be hosting the annual, free to attend, Wildfire & Earthquake Preparedness Expo on May 19, 2024 at Cloverdale Citrus Fairgrounds. A Board sponsorship through the use of General Fund Contingencies in the amount of $25,000 is requested to support costs associated with the Expo.
Discussion:
Northern Sonoma County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a non-profit organization operating in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Established in 2019, Northern Sonoma County CERT has trained more than 200 volunteers in emergency preparedness and response.
The annual Wildfire & Earthquake Preparedness Expo is attended by 2,000 to 3,000 visitors. It is sponsored by CERT, the Department of Emergency Management, FireSafe Sonoma, and many others including several local fire departments. The Expo will feature more than 75 exhibitors including government agencies, citizen groups, community-based organizations, and commercial vendors. There will be many entertaining and educational activities including helicopter demonstrations and fire suppression exhibits. The budget for the 2024 Expo is approximately $268,000. CERT has requested a sponsorship from the County of $25,000 to support the event.
This event is scheduled for Sunday May 19, 2024. Being held on a Sunday allows for farmworkers and their families to attend.
