Executive Summary:
The Commission on the Status of Women, in partnership with Latinos Unidos Del Condado de Sonoma, would like to honor the week of March 25-31, 2024 as National Farmworker Awareness Week. They ask the County of Sonoma Board of Supervisors to proclaim March 25-March 31, 2024 as National Farmworker Awareness Week in Sonoma County to honor farmworkers for their commitment, and honor them for the contributions they make to our daily lives.
Discussion:
National Farmworker Awareness Week takes place March 25- March 31, 2024. This annual celebration started in 1998 by a nonprofit organization called Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF). In 1999, the County of Sonoma Board of Supervisors enacted National Farmworker Awareness Week.
National Farmworker Awareness Week provides an opportunity for farmworker supporters across the country to honor farmworkers’ important contributions and to raise awareness about the issues they face. It’s important to continue to show awareness so that all generations learn where their food comes from and recognize how essential are farmworkers.
