This idea is reflected in the theme "Connecting the World Through Public Works."

Discussion:

National Public Works Week was instituted as a public education campaign by the American Public Works Association in 1960, calling attention to the importance of public works in community life. This week’s recognition seeks to enhance the prestige of these often-unsung heroes of our society, the professionals who serve the public good every day with steadfast dedication. This year the dedication of public works staff comes at a time in which staff has played a prominent role in providing essential services during the County’s responses to wildfires and severe winter storms. The road maintenance, transit, refuse, engineering, construction, airport, facilities divisions and support staff continue to provide essential services to the community ensuring continuity of operations and support to our local economy.
