The Board of Supervisors are responsible for appointments to over 75 Boards, Commissions, Committees, and Task Forces. Vacancies and upcoming expiring appointments are posted on the County’s list of Boards, Commissions, Committees, and Task Forces website: <https://sonoma-county.granicus.com/boards/w/808bd6e42edf8e0f>.
Rule 50 of the Board Rules of Procedures states that the Clerk of the Board shall convene staff to review prospective countywide appointments and make appointment recommendations to the Board. The current item recommends appointment of Devanshi Unadkat and re-appointment of Denia Candela to the First 5 Commission.
Discussion:
Approve the appointment of Devanshi Unadkat. Dr. Devanshi Unadkat is an assistant professor in the school of education at the University of San Francisco. Dr. Unadkat began her career in an early childhood education setting that valued interdisciplinary early childhood perspectives and emphasized innovative, anti-settings bias, and inclusive pedagogies towards creating socially just and equitable classroom and community spaces, which continue to be cornerstones of her current pedagogical practice..
Approve the re-appointment of Denia Candela to the First 5 Commission for a two-year term beginning March 21, 2023 through March 20, 2025. Denia Candela is re-appointed as the Parent Representative on the Commission. She is also currently the Health Equity Officer for the County of Sonoma. As a statistician, Denia leads with a unique approach to analytics by ensuring community narrative is at the forefront of metrics through a lens of equity, methodology, and cultural competence. Her expertise stems from lived experiences with disparities and community resilience.
