Executive Summary:

The Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women was established by the Board of Supervisors in 1975, charged with the task of eliminating discrimination and prejudice on the basis of sex in the areas of education, employment, health, housing, community services and other related fields. This item presents a report on the Fiscal Years 2020-2023 Work Plan.

Discussion:

The purpose of the Commission on the Status of Women is to promote equal rights and opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all women and girls, and to address issues of discrimination and prejudice that negatively affect women in Sonoma County.

The Commission continues to discuss and re-addressed priorities, goals and commitments to the women and girls in Sonoma County and their ability to meet the goals of the Commission.

The Commission held a strategic planning session in August 2022 to determine the goals and focuses for the near future.

The following are some of the projects/accomplishments the Commission has completed over the last couple years:

CSW was awarded the 2022 Women’s Recovery Response Grant

Some of our 2023 goals and projects are as follows:

Report on the Status of Women and Girls in Sonoma County: Complete this report in collaboration with the Californian Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and Mount Saint Mary’s Center for the Advancement of Women.
