Executive Summary:

The National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers are partnering with counties on Operation Green Light for Veterans. Operation Green Light is a public awareness campaign in observation of National Veterans Awareness Week.

This item seeks to adopt a resolution in support of Operation Green Light including the lighting of county buildings between November 7th through November 13th as a demonstration that veterans are seen, appreciated and supported.

Discussion:

Upon approved resolution, the Sonoma County Department of Public Infrastructure, in coordination with the Sonoma County Veterans Service Office, will initiate the lighting of local Veterans buildings and the Administration Building from Nov. 7 to Nov. 13 as part of Operation Green Light, a public awareness campaign in observation of National Veterans Awareness Week.

Operation Green Light for Veterans was launched by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers to show support for veterans of military conflicts, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and their families, and the resources available to assist former service members.

The new national collaborative builds on successful efforts of the New York State Association of Counties and the New York State County Veteran Service Officers’ Association in 2021. Sonoma County residents are also encouraged to participate by changing one light bulb in their home to a green bulb.
