Executive Summary:

The canvass for the May 5, 2020 Special Consolidated District Election has been completed and certified by the County Clerk. The Clerk is now submitting the official canvass to the Board of Supervisors for adoption as provided by law.

 

Discussion:

Pursuant to Elections Code §1500, the Special Consolidated District Election was held on May 5, 2020. The results thereof have been certified by the County Clerk, and the certification must be adopted by the Board of Supervisors as the governing body. Elections Code §15372 provides that the Clerk shall canvass the returns (provide an official tally of votes for the election).  Following certification of the official results, Elections Code §15302 requires the Clerk to submit a certified statement of the results to the governing body (the Board of Supervisors) for adoption. The Board shall, pursuant to Elections Code §15400, declare the results of each election under its jurisdiction as to each measure. The official canvass is also transmitted to the appropriate special districts for adoption by their governing bodies.

 

Prior Board Actions:

Resolution 2020-0090, dated March 17, 2020; authorized consolidation of special district elections to be held on May 5, 2020, which is established as an all mailed ballot election date.
