Title

Adopt a Gold Resolution declaring May 2020 as Older Americans Month in Sonoma County.

End

Executive Summary:

Sonoma County is committed to honoring older adults and celebrating the contributions made by older people in our communities. To demonstrate this commitment, the Board of Supervisors annually proclaims May as Older Americans Month in Sonoma County. This year’s Older Americans Month theme is Make Your Mark.

Discussion:

Every year in May for the past 57 years, the Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. The 2020 theme Make Your Mark highlights older adults’ unique and lasting contributions to their communities - everything from sharing a story with grandchildren to leaving a legacy of community action. Their time, experience, and talents benefit family, peers, and neighbors every day. Communities, organizations, and individuals of all ages are also making their marks. This year’s theme highlights the difference everyone can make - in the lives of older adults, in support of caregivers, and to strengthen communities.

The Sonoma County Human Services Department, Adult and Aging Services Division and the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council members will participate in community events in honor of Older Americans Month.
