Approve a fee waiver for the Sonoma County Farm Trails in the amount of $3,414.22 for additional law enforcement from the Sheriff’s office at the Gravenstein Apple Fair on August 17-18, 2019. (Fifth District)



Executive Summary:

This fee waiver is for additional law enforcement at the Gravenstein Apple Fair. This will be a one time waiver.



The Gravenstein Apple Fair was already completely planned and budgeted when the mass shooting in Gilroy occurred just shortly before the fair.  Concerned about the parallel nature of the food oriented event to the Gilroy Garlic Festival, organizers consulted with Sebastopol Police and Sheriff Essick.  The event occurs in Ragle Ranch Regional Park, inside the unincorporated County.  While the Apple Fair hires security for the event, law enforcement officials recommended having officers present given the circumstances.


This waiver is one time, and a response to concern about protecting the public at the event.  If in the future, the practice continues, the Fair will budget for the expense.
