Executive Summary:
Three names have been submitted to the Board of Supervisor’s from the Sonoma County City Selection Committee for appointment to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission those names are: Jake Mackenzie, Neysa Hinton, and David Hagele. Of these names put forward it is recommended the Board appoint Jake Mackenzie to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) for a 4 year term from February 2019 to February 2023.
Discussion:
On April 11, 2019, the Sonoma County City Selection Committee met in Petaluma, CA and made the recommendation that Jake Mackenzie be appointed to the MTC. The Cities of Cloverdale, Cotati, Healdsburg, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Sonoma and the Town of Windsor were represented at the meeting. The Meeting was noticed, met all Brown Act requirements and opened public comment on all items.
At 6:12 P.M., the City Selection Committee attended regular business, which Item 5A on the agenda was an appointment to the MTC.
A. 6:21 PM - Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), one position, to fill expired term (Feb. 2019) of Jake Mackenzie (Rohnert Park). (4-year fixed term) The Board of Supervisors shall accept 3 recommendations from the City Selection Committee to fill the position vacancy.
The City Selection committee Clerk read the “Timeline for Appointments to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission,” into the minutes (attached) which laid out the attempts made by the committee to receive letters for the MTC appointment. Two letters were received in the time frame for the call for letters from Jake Mackenzie and Steve Birdlebough. Public Comment was opened and closed for the appointment.
First the committee, upon motion by the City of Petaluma and seconded by the City of Healdsburg, took up the nomination of Jake Mackenzie (Rohnert Park) and on a 7-2 Vote, Jake Mackenzie’s name was put forth to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to fill the position on the MTC.
Second, upon motion by the City of Cloverdale and seconded by the City of Sonoma, the City selection Committee moved to comply with California Government Code Section 66503 and on a Unanimous Vote the Committee approved compliance with Government Code Section 66503 and decided to put forth 3 names to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors for the MTC.
Third, upon motion by the City of Cloverdale and seconded by the Town of Windsor, Neysa Hinton’s (Sebastopol) name was put forward and on an 8-0-1 Vote (Santa Rosa abstaining), Neysa Hinton’s name was put forth to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to fill the position on the MTC.
Finally, upon motion by the Town of Windsor and seconded by the City of Sonoma, David Hagele’s (Healdsburg) name was put forward and on a 7-1-1 vote (the City of Santa Rosa Abstaining and the Town of Windsor voting No), David Hagele’s name was put forth to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to fill the position on the MTC.
