Title
Adopt a Gold Resolution Declaring May 2019 as Older Americans Month in Sonoma County.
Body
Executive Summary:
Sonoma County is committed to honoring older adults and celebrating the contributions made by older people in our communities. To demonstrate this commitment, the Board of Supervisors annually proclaims May as Older Americans Month in Sonoma County. This year’s Older Americans Month theme is “Connect, Create, Contribute”, which emphasizes that people are never too old (or too young) to take part in activities that enrich physical, mental and emotional well-being, and celebrates the many ways older adults make a difference.
Discussion:
Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. The 2019 theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, encourages older adults and their communities to:
- Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
- Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
- Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.
Communities that encourage the contributions of older adults are stronger! By engaging and supporting all community members, we recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks, and lives.
The Sonoma County Human Services Department, Adult & Aging Division and the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council members will participate in community events in honor of Older Americans Month.
