The current item recommends reappointment of Bob Williamson as the Fifth Trustee on the Sonoma County Employees’ Retirement Association Board.

Discussion:

Approve the reappointment of Bob Williamson as the Fifth Trustee on the Sonoma County Employees’ Retirement Association (SCERA) Board. The Board of Supervisors first appointed Mr. Williamson to the Retirement Board in February 2014, and he has expressed interest in continuing to serve on the Board.

The SCERA Retirement Board is a nine-member Board, plus one alternate retired member. Positions on the Retirement Board involve fiduciary responsibilities to SCERA members and the willingness to participate in the decision-making process in an objective, fiscally sound, and prudent manner. Four of the trustees are appointed by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, five are elected by SCERA's membership (two general, one safety, one retired, one retired alternate), and the County Treasurer is elected by the public. Except for the County Treasurer, Board members serve three-year terms of office with no limits on the number of terms that can be served.  The fourth, fifth, and ninth trustees of the Retirement Board appointed by the Board of Supervisors must be members of the local community who are qualified electors of the County and not connected with County government.

Bob Williamson spent 33 years with Chevron in senior finance and related roles, retiring in 1998. At Chevron Mr. Williamson had management responsibility over Chevron's defined-benefit and 401k retirement plans, and he has also served on the Sonoma County Grand Jury. Mr. Williamson is currently serving as the Retirement Board’s Chair of the Administrative-Benefits Committee, and he also serves on the Board’s Disability Committee.

The Retirement Board’s Ninth Trustee appointed by the County Board of Supervisors is currently vacant. Community members who are interested in applying for this vacancy and serving on the Retirement Board are encouraged to apply on the County’s website: <https://sonoma-county.granicus.com/boards/w/808bd6e42edf8e0f/boards/36923>
