Executive Summary:
The Board of Supervisors are responsible for appointments to over 75 Boards, Commissions, Committees, and Task Forces. Vacancies and upcoming expiring appointments are posted on the County’s list of Boards, Commissions, Committees, and Task Forces website: <https://sonoma-county.granicus.com/boards/w/808bd6e42edf8e0f>.
Rule 50 of the Board Rules of Procedures states that the Clerk of the Board shall convene staff to review prospective countywide appointments and make appointment recommendations to the Board. The current item recommends reappointment of Greg Jahn to the Sonoma County Employees’ Retirement Association (SCERA) Board as the Fourth Trustee, and reappointment of Joseph Tambe to the SCERA Board as the Ninth Trustee.
Discussion:
The SCERA Retirement Board is a nine-member Board, plus one alternate retired member. Four of the trustees are appointed by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, five are elected by SCERA's membership (two general, one safety, one retired, one retired alternate), and the County Treasurer is elected by the general public. With the exception of the County Treasurer, Board members serve three-year terms of office with no limits on the number of terms that can be served. Per provisions in the County Employees Retirement Law, the appointment of the fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth trustees of the Retirement Board are to be members of the local community who are qualified electors of the County and not connected with County government; however, one may be a member of the Board of Supervisors. Retirement Board trustees have fiduciary responsibilities to SCERA members and must be willing to participate in the decision-making process in a fiscally sound, objective, and prudent manner.
Presently, Greg Jahn is serving as the Fourth Trustee of the Retirement Board and has served in this position since 2003. During his tenure on the Board, he has brought a wealth of financial acumen and business experience to his decision-making process. He is presently serving as the Chair of the Board’s Investment Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee. Mr. Jahn has indicated his desire to continue serving on the SCERA Board.
Joseph Tambe currently holds the position of Ninth Trustee of the SCERA Retirement board and has served in this position since 2012. Mr. Tambe has brought a fresh perspective and private sector experience to the Board’s decision-making process. He is currently a member of both the Board’s Disability Committee and Audit Committee. Mr. Tambe has indicated his desire to continue serving on the SCERA Board.
