Executive Summary:
The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program conduct no cost tax preparation assistance for low-income individuals and families, with special attention to those ages 50 or older. Last tax season, AARP prepared tax returns for 1,546 taxpayers in Sonoma County (181 people at the Sebastopol Veterans Memorial Building) and assisted another 175 taxpayers by answering questions, reviewing paperwork and helping them with letters from the Franchise Tax Board and IRS. The average annual income of those helped was $41,678 and 84% were over 60 years old. AARP plans to offer in person tax preparation in 2023 providing a low contact program by appointment only so there will be a minimal number of people in the waiting area. AARP volunteers will always wear masks in the building. Covid-19 vaccines and boosters are recommended for all AARP Volunteers. The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program receives no tax funding, and we can only operate in locations where there is no facility charge.
