Executive Summary:

The Board of Supervisors are responsible for appointments to over 75 Boards, Commissions, Committees, and Task Forces. Vacancies and upcoming expiring appointments are posted on the County’s list of Boards, Commissions, Committees, and Task Forces website: <https://sonoma-county.granicus.com/boards/w/808bd6e42edf8e0f>.

 

Per Sonoma County Ordinance 6489, the First 5 Sonoma County Commission, with the support of the First 5 Sonoma County Executive Director, will recruit potential new Commissioners, interview candidates and present nominations to the Board of Supervisors for appointment to the Commission. The current item recommends the reappointment of Denia Candela to the First 5 Sonoma County Commission in the role of parent representative.

 

Discussion:

Approve the reappointment of Denia Candela to the First 5 Sonoma County Commission for a two-year term beginning March 21, 2025, through March 20, 2027. Ms. Candela is being reappointed as the parent representative on the Commission. She is currently the lead equity analyst for the County of Marin’s Office of Equity. As a statistician, Ms. Candela leads with a unique approach to analytics by ensuring community narrative is at the forefront of metrics through a lens of equity, methodology, and cultural competence. Her expertise stems from lived experience with disparities and community resilience.

 

On January 27, 2024, the First 5 Sonoma County Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the Board reappoint Ms. Candela to the First 5 Sonoma County Commission.
