Rule 50 of the Board Rules of Procedures states that the Clerk of the Board shall convene staff to review prospective countywide appointments and make appointment recommendations to the Board. The current item recommends the reappointment of Richard Fuller, Lawrence Stimach, and Ann Marie Pitts to the Shiloh District Cemetery Board of Trustees.
Discussion:
The Shiloh District Cemetery (SDC) is a publicly owned special district of Sonoma County operating within 6.5 acres since 1937. As a rural cemetery, the first burial was recorded in 1850, although trustees working with local historical societies continue to identify older unmarked burials within the cemetery grounds because of wildfires that destroyed older wooden grave markers. Currently, there are 386 military veterans, Sherriff’s deputies, and Police Officers interred at SDC. These include veterans of the Civil War, Boxer Revelation in China, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. Trustees are responsible for maintaining the public cemeteries in adherence to the district’s rules and regulations to include grounds maintenance and plot sales. District trustees serve four year terms of service by appointment of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors.
Reappointment of Trustees-
Richard Fuller has served the Shiloh District Cemetery since being appointed May 8, 2012. If reappointed this will be Richard’s third term of service.
Ann Marie Pitts has served the Shiloh District Cemetery since being appointed February 12, 2018, and is the current Vice Chairperson. If reappointed this will be Ann’s second term of service.
Lawrence Stimach has served the Shiloh District Cemetery since being appointed March 1, 2016, and is the current Chairperson. If reappointed this will be Lawrence’s second term of service.
