Executive Summary:
The Board of Supervisors is responsible for appointments to over 75 Boards, Commissions, Committees, and Task Forces. Per Sonoma County Ordinance 6257 the First 5 Sonoma County Commission, with the support of the First 5 Sonoma County Executive Director, will recruit potential new Commissioners, interview candidates and present nominations to the Board of Supervisors for appointment. On June 4, 2024, the Board of Supervisors approved Ordinance 6489 amending ordinance 6257 by adding representatives of Tribal Governments and Organizations to the group of At Large members on the First 5 Sonoma County Commission. The recommendation is to Appoint Angel Flores to the First 5 Sonoma County Commission to serve in the At Large seat as a Tribal Governments and Organizations representative for a two-year term beginning August 19, 2024 and ending August 18, 2026.

Approve the Appointment of Ms. Flores to the First 5 Sonoma County Commission (“Commission”) to serve in the At Large seat as a Tribal Governments and Organizations representative for a two-year term beginning August 19, 2024 and ending August 18, 2026.
Per Supervisor (Commissioner) Gore's recommendation at the First 5 Sonoma County Commission’s February 26, 2024 meeting, the First 5 Sonoma County Commission’s Executive Director and the Deputy Director met with Betty Arterberry, CEO of Sonoma County Indian Health Project (SCIHP), to discuss the new category of at-large membership on the Commission approved by the Board of Supervisors, named the Tribal Communities and Organizations representative. The governing Board of Directors of SCIHP are an intertribal group of leaders and were asked to make a recommendation for individuals who might best represent the interests of Tribal families with young children as a First 5 Sonoma County Commissioner. They recommended Ms. Flores, WIC Director at SCIHP who has served the Tribal community for over fourteen years. Ms. Flores expressed interest, submitted an application and the First 5 Sonoma County Commission voted unanimously on June 24, 2024 that the Board of Supervisors appoint Ms. Flores to the First 5 Sonoma County Commission.
