Discussion:

The Sonoma County Public Law Library Board of Trustees (Board of Trustees) is a seven-member Board of Trustees.  The composition of the seven-member board includes five Superior Court Judges, historically appointed by the presiding judge, and two members appointed by the Board of Supervisors.  One representing the California State Bar, one representing the Board of Supervisors, both countywide seats.

During the February 25, 2026, Board of Trustees meeting, Board of Supervisors representative Trustee Sherie Hurd announced plans to retire upon the end of her current term ending January 1, 2027.  Sherie then recommended current Monterey College Associate Dean Fiona Hall as a suitable candidate for the position. The Board of Trustees invited Dean Hall to attend the August 26, 2026, meeting where they discussed the role and her experience.  Upon conclusion of their discussion Trustee Judge Patel Crocker moved to recommend Fiona Hall to the Board of Supervisors for appointment to the Law Library’s Board of Trustees. Trustee Judge Mark Urioste seconded the motion before passing unanimously.  This item proposes Fiona Hall’s appointment for a term of service beginning January 2, 2027, and ending January 1, 2028, as the Board of Supervisors representative.

Fiona Hall is a licensed attorney and legal educator serving as Associate Dean of Academic Advising at the Santa Rosa campus of Monterey College of Law. As Director and Adjunct Professor of the Mandell Gisnet Center for Conflict Management, a nonprofit community service program of the law school, she brings extensive experience navigating differing perspectives and competing interests through a creative and collaborative approach. Her experience and commitment to community engagement will support efforts to strengthen the library’s community presence and respond effectively to evolving technology and community needs.
