Receive an informational presentation from the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) on their Regional Shoreline Adaption Plan

end

Executive Summary:

The Shoreline Adaption Plan is an implementation project of Bay Adapt. Bay Adapt is a joint platform which lays out regional strategies that focus on overcoming barriers and identifying factors for successful adaptation outcomes throughout the region. This presentation will provide an overview of the Regional Shoreline Adaption plan.

Discussion:

What is BCDC?

Since the passage of AB 2094 in 2008, BCDC has been the State agency responsible for leading the Bay Area’s preparedness for, and resilience to, rising sea level, tides, and storm surge due to climate change. In 2011, BCDC adopted policies to require projects to be resilient to rising sea level through at least mid-century and beyond, given the project’s expected life. Just as important, the amendments directed that a regional adaptation strategy be developed by the Bay Area’s regional agencies.

Regional Shoreline Adaption Plan by Bay Adapt

The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) has been leading the Bay Adapt initiative since 2020, adopting the Bay Adapt Joint Platform in 2021.  Since its adoption, BCDC staff have been collaborating with regional and local partners to implement tasks and catalyze adaptation, including developing a Funding and Investment Framework with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and kicking off a Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan. The Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan will set the region on a path towards more coordinated and consistent local adaptation planning that advances our shared goals together.
