Executive Summary:

This report recognizes national Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision (PPPS) Week 2024 and the role of probation departments in creating safe, healthy, and caring communities.

Discussion:

National Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week is recognized by the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA), a 100,000 member-strong organization of community corrections professionals. During this week, we honor the compassion, strength, and determination of these professionals who create safer communities and help rehabilitate individuals in the criminal justice system while guiding them toward positive, productive lifestyles. The APPA’s theme for PPPS Week 2024 is Wellness Unveiled: Navigating the Journey. This theme highlights how community corrections professionals are working to create opportunities for Probation Officers at all levels to heal together and to find solutions to the challenges faced in this field of work. Through collaboration with treatment and behavioral health providers, schools, community-based organizations, and other law enforcement agencies, the Probation Department strives to guide the individuals we supervise toward building skills and becoming responsible, contributing community members.

Locally, Sonoma County Probation is committed to reducing recidivism, fostering accountability, promoting positive behavioral change, and safeguarding the community. This mission is realized through evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally and gender responsive rehabilitative services delivered by highly skilled staff and through community partnerships.
