Discussion:

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) administers a Homeland Security Grant Program, which includes the State Homeland Security Grant Program. The California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) administers this grant on behalf of the State of California and its regional Operational Areas.

State Homeland Security Grant Program (SHSGP) funds are received annually for the Operational Area for the purchase of specialized equipment for fire, law enforcement, and public safety agencies and other local jurisdictional emergency management preparedness needs. Equipment purchased with SHSGP funding enhances the capabilities of local governments and stakeholder agencies to plan for and respond to large scale emergencies, disasters, and other hazardous events.

DEM requested project applications from Operational Area partner agencies and applied to CalOES on behalf of the Sonoma County Operational Area. Operational Area Projects submitted and approved for the SHSGP FY2025 allocation include:

1.                     City of Petaluma: Disaster Preparedness for Seniors

2.                     City of Petaluma Police: Mobile Vehicle Barrier Equipment

3.                     City of Santa Rosa Fire Department: Mobile Radios

4.                     City of Santa Rosa Police Department: Real-Time Situational Awareness Platform

5.                     DEM: Joint Information Center & Crisis Communication Training

6.                     Department of Health Services: Public Health Preparedness / Emergency Medical Services Warehouse Supplies
