Executive Summary:
The County’s 2021-2026 Strategic Plan’s Organizational Excellence pillar includes an objective to “secure a total of $60 million in grant funding by 2026 for strategic priorities, including technology tools, climate resiliency, and other capital projects”. The County Administrator’s Office staff coordinates and provides quarterly updates to the Board of Supervisors on grant activities that accomplish this Strategic Objective and support County priorities.
This report covers grant activity from July through September 2024. This is an informational item only; departments will return to your Board as needed to seek any necessary grant-related approvals.
Discussion:
Since implementation of the County’s Strategic Plan, county departments and agencies have secured the $60 million objective target outlined in the Strategic Plan Organizational Excellence pillar. However, staff will continue to provide quarterly updates on grant activity to the Board and the public. Detailed information on grant activity in the reporting quarter is available in Attachment A, with new activity summarized as follows:
Ag Preservation & Open Space District (APOSD)
§ Received the California Climate Investments/Cal Fire Wildfire Prevention Grant for $1,900,000 for the Northside Russian River Shaded Fuel Break Project.
Efforts Underway:
§ Researching the following grants to develop the best project proposal.
o Wildfire Resilience Initiative
o Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation Program Grants
§ Researched the Coastal Conservancy and determined Vegetation Management was the best fit for the program.
§ Researched the following grants and determined APOSD does not have an eligible project at this time.
o Capacity Building Grants for Land Trusts

o 2024 Environmental Enhancement Fund Grant

Efforts Underway:
§ Electrification Applied for the Charging Infrastructure for Government Fleets Grant for $1,575,000 for the Sonoma County Fleet Electrification project.
§ Applied for the Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant Program for $233,790 for the Fleet Charing Project.
§ Applied for the Adaptation Planning Grant Program for $442,772 for the Sonoma County Energy Resilience Plan.
Department of Emergency Management (DEM)
§ Pre-Award Letter Received from California Housing and Community Development for $444,440 Federal grant for the Sonoma County Multi-Jurisdictional Emergency Transportation Gap Analysis and Plan.

§ Completed and closed a grant project that totaled $250,000 for the Climate Adaptation Center Plan funded by the California Coastal Conservancy’s Climate Ready Program.

§ Coastal Program grant for $950,000 for the Kashia Reserve and Stewarts Point Trail Construction
§ Priority Conservation Area grant for $680,000 for the Sonoma Schellville Trail Design
Sonoma Public Infrastructure (SPI)
