Executive Summary:
This report recognizes national Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision (PPPS) Week 2026 and the role of probation departments in creating safe, healthy, and caring communities.
Discussion:
The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) announces Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week (PPPS Week) 2026. The theme of the week, observed July 19-25, is Connected for Change: Building Bridges in Supervision. PPPS Week salutes and celebrates the valuable efforts of roughly 90,000 community supervision professionals across the country. These individuals supervise six million people - most of whom reentered our communities after a period of incarceration. The 2026 theme is aimed at breaking down walls and bringing people together to share, talk, heal, and celebrate.
The annual Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week (PPPS Week) campaign is a time to engage the public, policymakers, and legislators in recognizing the work that community corrections professionals provide to keep our communities safe. Community corrections professionals oversee persons convicted of a crime outside of jail or prison and are administered by agencies or courts with the legal authority to enforce sanctions. Community corrections include probation - correctional supervision within the community rather than jail or prison - and parole - a period of conditional, supervised release from prison.
Community corrections professionals have helped drive significant, positive changes in our nation, by helping to provide the appropriate supervision and service to the right person at the right time. Monitoring may take the form of home contacts, drug testing, making sure the individual attends counseling sessions and helping clients to find suitable housing and employment. Many officers also supervise clients using electronic monitoring equipment which requires expert knowledge of newer technologies.
Locally, Sonoma County Probation is committed to reducing recidivism, fostering accountability, promoting positive behavioral change, and safeguarding the community. This mission is realized through evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally and gender responsive rehabilitative services delivered by highly skilled staff and through community partnerships.
