Executive Summary:
The wildfire preparedness update will be an information-sharing session where staff will provide preparedness information on: the upcoming fire season projections, Fire Operational Area readiness, volunteer fire companies staffing, county Emergency Management's (DEM) preparedness efforts, regional collaboration efforts underway with local city governments, special districts, neighboring counties, and state agencies such as the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (CalOES), and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). In addition, the DEM will provide an update of the County’s agriculture pass program and participation to date.
Discussion:
In the last nine years, Sonoma County has experienced 19 locally proclaimed disasters, including wildfires, floods, drought, and power shut-off events. As Sonoma County enters the summer, and soon the fall season, the potential for large wildfires, power shut-off events, and extreme temperature events return to the surface.
Since 2019, the Department of Emergency Management has worked to build a robust Alert and Warning program and develop a comprehensive inventory of emergency supporting annexes (earthquake, care and shelter, alert and warning) to the County Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). We continue to support and foster community preparedness efforts with all Operational Area partners and the community.
For today's presentation, DEM will provide a brief seasonal outlook, fire resources, along with efforts underway for countywide preparedness, Disaster Service Worker training, pre-season coordination with other counties, a review of our alert and warning platforms.
The Director of Emergency Management will provide an update on the County’s program that supports agriculture passes (ag pass), along with applications submitted, and overall participation.
